GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM NRS UMAR FAROUK (PhD) REGISTRAR, NMCN AT THE NANNM ZONAL MEETING HELD ON 18/11/2021 AT ABUJA
The Secretary General and the Registrar of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Nrs Umar Farouk (PhD) visited the Zonal meeting of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives held on the 18/11/2021 at Sharon Ultimate Hotel, Area 3 Garki Abuja. On his goodwill message, the registrar briefed the NANNM Leaders in session about the ever fast growing achievements in Nursing profession in terms of academy advancement which was his aspiration since assumption in office he promised to make degree awarding institutions accessible to all aspiring nurses so that there will be no excuse which he said the dream is about 85% achieved in that vein, he applause the Nigerian Nurses for their zeal and aspirations to acquire Degrees MSc and PhD which is adding more colors to the profession.

CONCERN
The registrar expressed great concern about the kind of Nursing care services that is been rendered to patients today in various health institutions, comparing with the previous years where there were very little or no Degrees carriers nursing personnel but the efficiency, the qualitative and hardworking seen in Nursing services were enormous and is appreciated by the general public, but now, with the increased numbers of Degrees, MSc and PhD yet the impact is less palpable in the society, in fact it appears to be like the image of Nursing is going down which left one to wonder if the progressive papers achievements has really helped the profession or only decorated our individual boxes? He said, The work is not felt by the members of the public at all.
He further said that unlike other profession, the higher you grow in Nursing, the complex your works and responsibilities should be. But today, reverse is the case, why?
That the senior Nurses at most instances fold their arms, seat in the offices and left core work for the Junior Nurses (the newly employed or students nurses) to handle serious produces and that culture is posing serious damages to the prestigious image of our profession, its making Nurses to be viewed as lazy set of people or inexperienced.
Finally he called on all Nursing leaders from all levels to sit up to their responsibilities and correct these anomalies and plead with all senior Nurses to put in their best experiences to use.
