The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven Gulf sheikhdoms: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Qaiwain. The UAE now has 40 public Hospitals, compared with only 7 in 1970.

The Ministry of Health is undertaking a multi million-dollar program to expand health facilities and hospitals, medical centers, and a trauma center in the seven emirates.

To attract wealthy UAE nationals and expatriates who traditionally have traveled abroad for serious medical care, Dubai is developing Dubai health care city, a hospital free zone that will offer international-standard advanced private healthcare and provide an academic medical training center; completion is done and finished on 2010.

12 million people visit Dubai every year for healthcare services.

MOH/DHA/HAAD REQUIREMENTS

  • TB/HIV/HBV ( must be negative) NO TEST REPORT REQUIRED.
  • Valid International Passport.
  • NMCN Certificate of registration
  • Verification/Good standing Certificate from NMCN.
  • Valid licence.
  • WEAC/NECO Certificate.
  • Academic Transcript.
  • Certificate of Experience from work place.
  • BLS/ACLS certificate.
  • School of training certificate.
  • Minimum of 2years Clinical Working Experience.
  • Evidence of change of name (marriage cert./court affidavit) if applicable.

MOH UAE NURSING REGISTRATION AND SERVICE DETAILS

Professional Titles:

  1. Registered Nurse
  2. Specialty Nurse
  3. Registered Midwife.

NOTE: Make sure that your experience is valid after receiving your license. Not after completion of your course.

NURSING SPECIALTY TITLES:

  • — Community Nurse
  • – Pediatric Nurse
  • – Mental Health Nurse
  • – Critical Care Nurse
  • – Neonatal Nurse
  • – Home Care Nurse.

Examination:

Nurses and Midwives are required to pass the Ministry of Health and Prevention examination in order to obtain the professional license in the UAE.

The applicant is granted a total of three (3) attempts to pass the examination.

After the third attempt the applicant is not allowed to apply for a lower or equivalent title. Exam Exemption :UAE National/Graduate of Universities inside UAE/Applicant having licence from UK, USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Ireland.

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: HOW TO BE A NURSE IN UAE

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES is a country made up of 7 states as below.

Sharjar, Ajman, Fujerah, Raskelma, and Alma Quin.The health regulatory body for these afore mentioned states is called Ministry of Health.(MOH).

Abu Dhabi the capital of United Arab Emirates has its own health activities governed by Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD).

Dubai: the economic and tourist centre of United Arab Emirate, is also independent in its health regulatory activities. The body that controls this is called Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

To secure a job and work as a registered nurse in the Emirates, you are required to process any of these above mentioned licences.

The method and process of registration to obtain their licence varies from one body to another.

No license is superior to the other, it all depend on your preference

Hint: MOH method of application is the easiest, simplest and fastest.

For example: if you are HAAD passer but you got job in Dubai, you will simply do what they refer to as transfer of licence and obtain DHA licence if not, you won’t be allow to practice. The same is applicable to MOH passers.

But if you are fortunate to get job under your licence regulatory body, you are free to practice.

Once all these documents are in place, then you can begin your application process with Department of nursing, Ministry of Health, United Arab Emirates.

STEP BY STEP APPLICATION PROCESS WITH DEPARTMENT OF NURSING UAE.

Create DHA account.

  • Step1: fill in bio data information.
  • Step2 : fill in license/ educational/ employment details.
  • Step3 : Upload all required documents.
  • Step 4 : payment of registration application fee.

Then your application will be forwarded to dataflow automatically for verification of documents and you are expected to make payment for dataflow verification before the commencement.

Dataflow will therefore contact; NMCN, your school of thought, and your health facility.

Verification certificate will be issued after the whole process by dataflow and your application is returned to MOH automatically for final assessment.

Your application is finally approved by MOH and you are qualified to fly to UAE to write their nursing board exam because it is a local exam.

Success in this exam will lead to license issuance by MOH to the successful Nurse.

NURSES EXPECTED SALARY IN DUBAI

The average salary expected for a nurse in Dubai is estimated to be between 2,500-10,000 UAD which equates to approximately ₹50,000-2,00,000, $800-2500, £450-1600 or €525-2000.

The beginning salary for a nurse in Dubai is dependent on qualification and position as well as whether the hospital is funded privately or by the government. A huge advantage of nursing in Dubai, however, is that your income will be tax-free. Furthermore many nursing jobs in Dubai come with a wide range of benefits including insurance, accommodation allowance and travel expenses.

HOW TO APPLY FOR DHA LICENSE.

To start your registration process you need to;

Have completed an accredited nursing or midwifery program with a MINIMUM of 3 years duration in training.

Hold a minimum of Basic Life Support Certificate.

Have a MINIMUM of 2years post registration experience.

STEP 1

Gather the following documents ready:

-High school Diploma or certificate.

-Nursing certificate or diploma.

-Nursing transcript from your nursing school indicating related nursing experience.

-Certificate of employment or experience (stamped and signed by nursing or medical director or human resource manager )

-Valid/current nursing license from your practicing country.

-Your international passport (you will need to scan the front and back)

-Good standing certificate from your regulatory agency (sent directly to DHA)

-A coloured passport sized photo on white background.

-Marriage certificate (if applicable).

STEP 2

Scan all the documents, create an account on the DHA e-service platform and fill the application form while uploading the required documents.

STEP 3

On the last page, download theAUTHORIZATION letter, sign it and upload it back with your particulars and date.  On getting to the payment section, you need to make payment , Then wait for 6 weeks for the evaluation of your credentials. Next you will receive an email to validate your application. 

STEP 4

After validation, you will be required to pay for the Primary Source Verification which entails DHA verifying your educational qualifications, experience certificate and professional license. Your educational qualifications, working experience and professional qualifications are verified from the issuing authorities. 

STEP 5

After you are deemed eligible, you will be required to write the Dubai Prometric exam. (No centre in Nigeria presently but Ghana is the closest option)

The Dubai Prometric exam is a 2 hours multiple-choice questions with ONE BEST ANSWER. It consists of 70 questions and you are expected to score AT LEAST 60% (42 questions ). Results are usually released within 5 working days.  

STEP 6.

After passing the prometric exam, you will be issued ELIGIBILITY LETTER. Your eligibility letter is only valid for one year from the date of passing your exam.

Note that you have just three attempts to pass this exam else you will have to show evidence of further studies before you will be allowed to retake it for the fourth time.

Health Authority of Abu Dhabi licence processing

Registered Nurses who want to work in Emirate of Abu Dhabi are required to pass the HAAD examination and must be licensed by the regulating body.


HAAD also shapes the regulatory framework for the health system, sets and inspects against regulations and enforce standards.

Recently, the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi has changed the HAAD application process licensure by requiring nurses to undergo credential verification first via Dataflow and exam administration which is conducted online by Pearson Vue Professional Testing.


Aside from nurses, HAAD examination also gauges the theoretical capability of healthcare professionals such as doctors and pharmacists who are aspiring to work in UAE.

Exam Format

Examinees are asked to answer 150 items computer-based questions for three hours. The passing rate is 90 percent and above, and the result of the examination will be immediately available after you finish it, similar to the Saudi Prometric Exam. In the examination results, the percentage of your correct answers is not stated. Instead, only a pass or fail result is shown.

Qualifications

These are the modified qualifications for Registered Nurses based on the latest Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR):

Bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent qualification of NLT three (3) years study duration in “Nursing” from accredited school.

  • Valid license.
  • Valid Basic Life Support certification.
  • ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.

Note: this excludes programs comprising 2 years nursing + 1 year Midwifery or Community Health. Holders of such programs qualify as Practical Nurses.

2 years clinical experience post qualification in appropriate setting.

Required Documents:

If you are qualified for HAAD examination, then you may proceed with the Dataflow process for credential verification.

Dataflow is an agency who will aid each applicant to verify the required documents.


If applicants are eligible after verification of documents, then they can proceed with the HAAD examination process.

Gather all the required documents for your desired position and scan them. The required documents are as follows:

  • School documents
  • High school diploma
  • College diploma with Certificate of Authentication and Verification.
  • Official Transcript of Records with Certificate of Authentication and Verification.
  • Board certificate.
  • Certificate of good standing – must be 6 months valid.
  • Emplyment Credentials.
  • Certificate of employment signed by the head of HR – volunteer experience does not count.

Retake : Examinees are given three attempts (in three separate applications) to pass the HAAD examination.
